Commissioning & Conditioning Dry Screed

Commission & Condition Screed with ForceDry’s Specialist Equipment

Why Is Screed Commissioning & Conditioning Important?

If your project includes underfloor heating, it’s crucial to thermally prepare your floors before laying the final floor finish. This process, known as screed commissioning and conditioning, gradually heats the screed to a target temperature before cooling it back down. This controlled process minimises the risk of cracking, curling, and de-bonding, ensuring a stable and durable floor.

Skipping this process can lead to thermal shock, causing the screed to expand and contract too quickly. This can result in costly issues like floor lifting, curling, and de-bonding, as well as potential warranty avoidance.

How It Works – Hire Specialist ForceDry Systems

  1. Once the screed is dry/cured, ForceDry’s 3-component system is installed.
  2. Portable electric boilers heat the screed in a controlled manner until it reaches the target temperature.
  3. The screed is held at this temperature for several days before gradually cooling.

We recommend using our high-spec dehumidifiers to remove any residual moisture released by the screed. This keeps the atmosphere dry and encourages it to give up more. Air moving fans maintain good air flow around the dwelling, so our dehumidifiers have maximum effect.

The entire process is customised based on screed brand and depth, calculated as part of our screed testing and estimating process.

Avoid Costly Mistakes – Condition Your Screed Properly

What could happen if I miss this process?

When the underfloor heating is switched on and the screed begins to feel heat for the first time there is a high risk of thermal shocking. The screed expands and contracts too quickly causing cracking of the screed and the flooring above. Any residual moisture in the screed would also be released lifting, curling and de-bonding floor finishes. These can be extremely expensive problems to rectify later down the line.
Skipping this step may also invalidate any flooring warranties.
