Force Dry Programme

Fast & Effective Screed Drying with ForceDry’s Specialist Equipment

If your project includes underfloor heating and a screed, you can dramatically cut drying time with force drying, saving weeks compared to natural drying. With ForceDry’s advanced screed drying solutions, a 50mm screed can go from wet to dry in just 21 days ready for your floor finish.

Why Choose Force Drying Over Natural Drying?

Flowing screeds dry at 1mm per day for the first 40mm and 0.5mm per day thereafter. A 50mm screed would take at least 60 days to dry naturally—plus an additional 17 days for the screed commissioning and conditioning process before floors can be laid.

Manufacturers typically calculate drying times based on 20°C air temperature with 65% relative humidity, maintained 24/7 for 60 days. However, these conditions are rare in the UK, meaning natural drying often takes much longer.

Force Drying Screed – Wet to Dry in 21 Days

For projects with UFH (underfloor heating), major screed manufacturers recommend force drying as it not only reduces drying time but also helps commission and condition screed before flooring installation. This process prevents common issues like cracking, warping, and de-bonding caused by moisture release after floor finishes are laid.

How It Works – Hire Specialist ForceDry Systems

A few days after pouring, ForceDry’s 3-component system is installed to accelerate drying:

Electric boiler hire, our portable electric boilers heat the screed in a controlled manner.

Industrial dehumidifiers, extract moisture from the air, keeping humidity low and encouraging further moisture release.

Large fan hire & air-moving fans, ensure optimal air circulation, maximizing dehumidifier efficiency.

Once at the target temperature, the screed is held there for several days before gradually cooling down. The force drying programme is tailored to the screed brand and depth and is calculated as part of our screed testing and estimating process.
